I always heard that this particular picture was from a show and tell session.

Can't confirm but seems legit. The shooting courses were usually part of 4A or school military programs like JORTC or CAP.

Can anyone make out the image for the letter "J" hanging on the back wall of the classroom in the Alphabet? I can't quite tell what I'm looking at, but seeing a sombrero in the "M" gives me hope

An old guy my ex boss used to do work for said back in the day all the lads who hunted would bring their guns to school and store them in the principals office

So they could get hunting right after school before the sun went down
