Predators have forward facing eyes to help judge the distance to their prey. Prey animals (herbivores) have side facing eyes to expand their field of view past 180 deg. We have predator eyes.
Carnivores have small digestive tracts because meat is very calorie dense. Herbivores have very large digestive tracts and often multi-chambered stomachs that help them digest massive amounts of low nutrition foods.
If you compare a pig, which is a true omnivore, to a human a pig has side facing eyes and tiny legs which means their gut is a much larger percentage of their body mass.
Our gut is slightly larger than a pure predator like a cat. It's still small and without high calorie foods - meat, fruit, nuts and starches (potatoes, rice, wheat) - we physically can not eat enough calories to survive.
Our first unique physical characteristic (bipedalism) allows for exhaustion hunting. Nearly all other predators rely on surprise and a massive burst of speed to catch their prey. Having 4 legs allows you to run very fast. Walking on two legs is very efficient, so a human can pursue it's prey until at a steady pace it's too tired to outrun us with it's bursts of speed.
Our second unique characteristic (intelligence) allows us to outsmart our prey. Herbivores are stupid, you don't have to outsmart a field of grass.
Physically we are hunters with the capacity to eat other things.

Yeah, but not that much. Excess protein is converted to sugar in the body, however, it’s an extremely energy demanding process. It creates ammonia as a byproduct. Too much ammonia is a huge problem that no body can deny.
