Did you know the original seven deadly sins did not include SLOTH? Thomas Aquinas got rid of unhappiness/sadness and replaced it with sloth.
Pride is also not one of the seven deadly sins, but rather is considered the progenitor of all of them.
I actually like the concept of unhappiness as a sin, but I can understand why it was replaced with "sloth". Recognizing that not working to change your situation is the real sin, rather than just being simply unhappy. But if God created this world for you, in His image, you can see why it's sinful to be unhappy about it.
I think whining and moaning is an exploitive strategy that is appropriate for children but not adults. Jews encouage it, make it a medical condition and then charge money to cure it.
I bet "jew" is probably a reasonable [and perhaps even literal] translation from the original greek or aramaic or pig latin or whatever it was translated from on those old scrolls!
The seven deadly sins are a lie. There were 12 original sins. 1. Pride. 2. Avarice. 3. Gluttony. 4. Lust. 5. Wrath. 6. Envy. 7. Sloth. 8. Fear. 9. Guilt. 10. Hypocrisy. 11. Vanity. 12. Prejudice.
It would take an entire essay to explain the reasons that they picked all of these characteristics, but the shortest explanation was that indulgence in these sins kept one separated from God and the Creation. When you remain separated, you are much more easily dominated by other forces. In other words, these characteristics placed one closest to "herd mentality."
So this post inspired me to look up the seven deadly sins and the wikipedia article says they are based on the eight evil thoughts according to a Greek monk named Ponticus :
Γαστριμαργία (gastrimargia) gluttony; Πορνεία (porneia) prostitution, fornication; Φιλαργυρία (philargyria) avarice (greed); Λύπη (lypē) sadness, rendered in the Philokalia as envy, sadness at another's good fortune; Ὀργή (orgē) wrath; Ἀκηδία (akēdia) acedia, rendered in the Philokalia as dejection; Κενοδοξία (kenodoxia) boasting; Ὑπερηφανία (hyperēphania) pride, sometimes rendered as self-overestimation, arrogance, or grandiosity
Acedia (Latin, acedia "without care"[32]) (from Greek ἀκηδία) is the neglect to take care of something that one should do. It is translated to apathetic listlessness; depression without joy. It is related to melancholy; acedia describes the behaviour and melancholy suggests the emotion producing it. In early Christian thought, the lack of joy was regarded as a willful refusal to enjoy the goodness of God.

That is quite true, and an excellent observation!
