Whites are a mix of three major ethnic groups
1. Indigenous WHG who tended to have blue eyes and y chromosome I. Partly descended from Cro-magnons.
2. Early Neolithic Farmer, sometimes Early European Farmer or Anatolian Neolithic Farmer. These were early farmers who expanded out of the middle east, probably Turkey, and colonized Europe about 8kya. They tended to have Y haplogroup G. Sardinians and Canary Islanders may be the most comparable modern populations. Otzi the iceman. Heavy in southern europe. Perhaps the source of Basque language.
3. Yamnaya or steppe herder, aka Aryan or Kurgan. Heavily descended from Eastern European Hunter Gatherer who in turn is descended from Ancient Northern Eurasian (ANE). Tended to have R1b or R1a Y choromosomes. ANE genetics is typified by Mal’ta Boy, a set of ancient remains found in asia. ANE also contributed to Native American people’s genetics (about 30 %)

Middle Easterners have mostly the same components but in different proportions, and they tend to have some other groups among their ancestors such as Caucasus Hunter Gatherer and Natufian/Basal Eurasian. S. Italians and Greeks actually have ME genetics from a migration that happened after the Early Neolithic Farmers, but they “look like” ENF when you are only doing 3 components.

Garrett will correct me if I get any of this wrong. But I think most of what Ive said here is consistent with updates over the last decade or so. For whatever thats worth.
