Some fucking soy boy faggot at the pet supply store told me I couldn't hold one of the ferrets because they could catch covid.

Things that make me hate, episode 36728...

He could have just said "no", and not said why. I didn't care that much about holding the funny little tube sock kitten creature. I wouldn't have pressed the issue. But nooooooo, "sorry, they're a covid transmission risk" (or some retarded shite). Get fucked faggot.

Ducks at the park are free.

All your ducks are belong to me.

Free as in freedom, or free beer?

[ - ] Weredawg 12 points 3.2 yearsApr 23, 2022 21:55:46 ago (+12/-0)

Free as in "I have 458 ducks."

[ - ] lord_nougat 2 points 3.2 yearsApr 23, 2022 22:07:14 ago (+2/-0)

But wait, are they horse-sized ducks?

[ - ] Epictetus 3 points 3.2 yearsApr 23, 2022 22:39:59 ago (+3/-0)

Once captured, it is illegal to release non native fauna into the wild. If you catch it, it's yours.

Pretty sure that there are backward laws here in the peoples republic of California. Some guy got busted for this a few years back really publicly at a relatively nearby park, I recall.

Lots of really delicious geese tend to be there. Damn, goose is delicious...

They make a mess in jet engines. May make your flight land in the Hudson River.

Many duck species they sell in the store are wild duck species. It's kind of like capturing turkeys from the wild. Once their in a cage, police have 0 capacity to determine whether you stole wild ones, or bought them with cash from the store.

I like ducks, they never let me scoop them up and pet them though. Probably because every time I see free ducks at the park I always have a very predatory dog by my side, staring them down.

[ - ] Fascinus 9 points 3.2 yearsApr 23, 2022 22:50:25 ago (+9/-0)

If you raise them from hatchlings, they will imprint upon you and you can be their "mommy".

We've raised several clutches of ducks and geese that way. I've never been much of a bird guy and I was really surprised how loyal and affectionate they can be.

One year, we raised a clutch of Candaistanian geese. They were super fun. We let them free range and they'd always try to get into the house to be with us.

Around the time they reached maturity, a local flock began flying over, their constant calls beckoning to the youngsters; "join us!". It wasn't long after that they left home to join their peers.

Time went on and, while we missed them being around, we totally understood the appeal of living with their own kind.

One day I look out on the front window and seem them both plodding around on the deck like nothing had ever happened.

I went and hung out with them for a while and then they took off.

They'd come to visit us every once in a while for the next year or so and then we never saw them again.

All in all I found it to be a rewarding experience.

I got to hold a bunny last week. It was pure white and fuzzy as fuck. They didn't say shit about vaxes, Florida grind set

[ - ] Fascinus 6 points 3.2 yearsApr 23, 2022 21:49:24 ago (+6/-0)

I fucking love rabbits. Never thought I would, other than eating them.

Depends on the breed, how they are raised, individual temperament and whatnot and they can be incredibly sweet.

Oldest daughter got a couple as pets a while back and, before I knew it, the little peanut butter dollop stole my heart.

He looks kind of like this: https://files.catbox.moe/byesf5.png

[ - ] lord_nougat 3 points 3.2 yearsApr 23, 2022 21:51:09 ago (+3/-0)

They are pretty tasty.

[ - ] TheViciousMrPim 3 points 3.2 yearsApr 23, 2022 22:17:21 ago (+3/-0)

I kept a bunny for several recent years. I posted a few times on Voat about her. I called her Dog. She was a pretty alright pet. Like if you mixed a cat w a guinea pig. It was like that.

[ - ] HeyJames 0 points 3.2 yearsApr 24, 2022 09:40:55 ago (+0/-0)

They make some funny noise when you break their neck or shoot them with a .22. Don't recommend hunting rabbits any time except spring. If you raise em for meat get them used to being handled, makes the process easier.

[ - ] TheViciousMrPim 0 points 3.2 yearsApr 24, 2022 10:04:06 ago (+0/-0)

If you were hoping for some shocked response, I'm going to disappoint you. I don't care it people kill and eat rabbits. I would have killed you for doing so to Dog. But Dog was my pet, not a meat rabbit. Kill and eat all the animals you want. Just not Dog.

Well, I mean she's dead now anyway...

Ferrets are awesome. I love those Insane little rat monsters.

[ - ] Fascinus 2 points 3.2 yearsApr 23, 2022 22:37:01 ago (+2/-0)

Been considering getting one as a pet for one of my sons.

They seem to be pretty rascally and entertaining, which appeals to me.

I've heard they hoard objects like pack rats, which is kind of fun in its own way.

I've also heard they have a bit of a musky smell which, while distinct, is tolerable.

Anything else I should know before getting one?

[ - ] TheViciousMrPim 2 points 3.2 yearsApr 23, 2022 22:57:13 ago (+2/-0)

A ferret? They are very, insanely capable of getting into the smallest hole or crack you can imagine. I don't know what kind of/how big your place is. But ferret proofing is required. No joke. They're amazingly cool little animals. But you need to make sure they can't get anywhere, weird. Because they will.

And they're nocturnal. And want to play at night. They're the kind of animal where two might be better for them socially. But then there's two.

Females smell less. Males smell, a lot. People have males scent glands removed because it's very smelly. You probably want a female, or a pair.

OTOH, it's like owning kittens that never grow up. They're craxy

[ - ] Fascinus 1 point 3.2 yearsApr 23, 2022 23:09:46 ago (+1/-0)

Appreciate the info.

We enjoy a lively household and are used to toddler-proofing the living space.

Sounds like they'd be right up our alley.

My cousins had them, one each. Yes they like company. They also liked to stuff themselves into unattended drinking glasses. I saw a video of someone who made a tube run around their house connected to a pen for them so they could get exercise and stimulation.

These idiots really think that (if coof was actually real and not totally fiction) animals are susceptible to all human diseases.

Ferrets are useful hunting animals though. If you train them you can use them to hunt rabbits. Nice way to get wild rabbit meat that isn't full of lead shot.

They can, but that's not necessarily useful. When hunting rabbits the idea is to scare the rabbit out into a net. If the ferret kills the rabbit underground it might not want to bring it out again.

Yeah, I saw another video where the rabbit escaped the net but then ran ten feet right into another one. I think it tried to go back down one of the holes.

The buns are also cute unfortunately. It'd be sad having to snap their necks. Bet they're delicious in a stew though and the sheep will be safe from broken legs once the holes are filled in.

I gather before they had nice plastic nets like that they used multiple ferrets. I've heard of guys running around with pockets full of ferrets throwing them down holes wherever a rabbit pokes it's head out.

Might not wanna risk shooting the ferret. Also in some areas owning and using a gun is a huge hassle.

He showed snapping their necks in another video. He just held their neck in one hand, grabbed their head with the other and bent it all the way back until it snapped.
