It's the opposite of dominance. It's a show of affection that the cat likes you or is submitting to you. It's not the cat saying you're mine now. Maybe saying you're my friend now... but that's not what you're saying. You're saying it's dominating you... not true.

I doubt either apple: Cats aren't social animals. Adults in the wild only spend time together to mate, they don't have much of a reason to evolve communication around dominance and submission. Domesticated cats have evolved to tolerate the company of other animals more but they're still not socially bonded the way humans or dogs are.
