of course, their story is provable nonsense by the fact that the pyramids were built at a minimum 1000+ yrs before their account takes place. and before the jewish 'slaves' left the egyptians 'lent' all their gold to the jews. lol. but we wuz da real jews.
Slavery was a legal institution among the Hebrews.
Jews enslaved each other. Say you have a bad year. You sell your child to your neighbor for six years. That's the statute; no more than six years. There are all kinds of laws that say what you have to provide: food, shelter, education. In exchange you get labor. I get some of your stash to make up for a non-existent harvest this past season.
Slavery has been an institution for most of human history.
It's the modern world that treats the transatlantic slave trade - and for some goddamned reason the Jewish captivity in Egypt and Babylon - as historical novelties. Just very bad history. The whole woke movement depends necessarily on bad history and the retards learning it. You couldn't get this over on a smarter population. That's why what you're seeing today started over a century ago. The institutions had to be captured.
Yes. But we're also bound to get in a debate over terms here. The person who wants to defend the practice might say 'slavery' is a pejorative term, and would say it follows something closer to 'indentured servitude'.
But Leviticus clearly establishes that a man in debt can sell either himself or his children into slavery for some X period of years to absolve debts.
Again, what do we mean by slavery? How much of the way we interpret these terms is culturally relative?
"I have a debt. I am contractually committed to someone for X years to pay that debt off, and in that time I will do the labor he tells me to do. There are rules about how this will go, which pertain to me as the slave and also limit what the master can do."
Isn't it funny how if we change a few words and elevate a few different values in the culture, paying lip service to human rights or something, suddenly the same things can be called slavery or freedom?
The description I gave above (in quotes) doesn't sound that far off from what we call 'free living' in the west. If you want things, you accrue debt. Your debt makes you subject to paying it off. For this you go and do labor for someone to earn the right to be called debt-free.
Modern society has just separated the slave owner from the slave master. The bank owns your ass, and you go work for some private interest to earn the means of paying off the bank.
The bank can't tell you to jump and how high thought. I get your point and it's historically significant, but modern day is still way off from anything called slavery.
Fuck we can't even force criminals to do labor. Let along some guy who was irresponsible with his bills.
Jews were never slaves in egypt. They were actually known as Hiksos and ruled lower Egypt. And the idea of Shepherd Kings actually means a person who is from another country that is ruling in a country that is not theirs and that's what the Egyptians called the jews. The Jews were run out of Egypt they didn't escape. This is what the old Egyptian texts say. When they left the Jews apparently stole the power source for the pyramids and after the Jews left and stole that the Egyptian Kingdom died out after amos and it speculated that the Ark of the covenant was some sort of a power source related to the pyramids that made the pyramids do some things that were essential for the success of the Egyptian Empire up until that time.
The Bible isn't literally true, especially where it comes to history, most Christians here could agree on that.
I view its stories as I do the first mythologies of Europe, West Asia, and North Africa. That they are ridiculous when treated as factual truth, but they have another purpose, which is to provide lessons on how one could personally live their lives, and how one could build their society as a people, they also provide a good cultural point of reference, one where the traditions derived from them could be used as a source of identity for the peoples who they apply to, a sense of belonging to a greater community to which one is connected, it's also a good basis for communicating ideas and opinions to one another allowing complex concepts to be understood more intuitively, not to mention how these tales are a source of beauty, which is a virtue often unjustly maligned, anesthetics matter, they really fucking do, I hate how everything that's not plain or ugly is hated for standing out, we used to pursue the exceptional, even just witnessing it was a prize to kill and die for, beauty is transcendent, but now we have a world dedicated to slaying the golden hinds and sacred deers of the world, just because we can't stand anything that outshines us.
it's most likely the christians downvoting you my dude. it's most of the athiests on here who would agree with you. probably before the bible was printed this was how most christians were, cause they couldn't read it so they just heard the nice moral stories every sunday. but now that they can read it dogmatism is rife and these idiots are taking verses literally and walking whites into racial suicide.
plenty arent tho. its just as difficult for christians finding other christians who arent batshit crazy and are shuffling along in the right direction.
when i dont take genesis literally i read a dumbed down story of the big bang and evolution rather than the literal 7 day creation and a begat b begat c... how do you explain to an illiterate goatherder 2000 years ago what we take for granted now.
Well, I think most Christians see the biblical account of history as being a symbolic representation of what truly happened. As myths often are written to be.
The Bible isn't literally true, especially where it comes to history, most Christians here could agree on that.
The jewish priests who wrote and re-wrote the Hebrew scriptures were prone to gross exaggeration and often inflated numbers and invented events. It's why I completely disregard it.
