After getting skunked 14 consecutive times over 16 years at a record trophy Troute lake in my area, (a beautiful lake) today I finally pulled my first 3 into the boat…..
It’s an hour away so I’ve driven over 1400 miles to this whuur in the last 2 decades and never once got one close enough to see, until today.
They were only 4-5 lb’rs so they weren’t the 23lb’rs the lk is known for, but they’re twice as fat as any I've caught at that length.
7hrs without a bite then 5 on the line and 3 in the boat in 45mins.
After that much time it would be wrong to say it wasn’t the best day fishing I’ve had.
Inshore salt water fishing is the absolute top tier of fishing. Offshore is kind of boring, but pulling up and eating a Giant Grouper is awesome, so is getting in front of Mahi. Ive been trout fishing in BFE canada, it is pretty nice. But just on rivers and ponds in shit nhaa no thanks.
Thanks, they’re not monsters by any definition, but at about 20” they’re almost twice as fat as any I’ve caught that long. All 3 were practically identical size, about 3.8lb
Congratulations! Fishing is my absolute favorite hobby; it's the reason I get out of bed in the mornings.
I'll have to say that is some iron clad devotion. After 16 years of going to the same lake and getting skunked, much weaker fisherman would have either given up the hobby or tried somewhere else!
Oh ive fished and caught at least 3-400 trout at dozens of lakes in that time. I only obsess over that lk cause it’s the record trophy trout lk in my area, and I once watched a guy pull an 11 lb’r out, which is far bigger then anything I’ve ever caught other then salmon. That and it’s a particularly pretty lake and the 1st one to ice off in spring.
That makes sense. I have a lake about an hour or so from me with a similar story.
I've seen multiple trophy musky (40 plus inches) pulled from that lake. I swear they're larger than my leg. I've had extremely great fishing days on that lake, but I've yet to land anything over 40.
It’s crazy how different the mountains are then the prairies. With the exception of Salmon fishing, the prairies have 100s of times more monsters and just overall fish populations. My cousin in the prairies swats away 3-4ft Musky’s and Pike like they’re an annoyance. I thought a fukn gator head surfaced next to the boat the first time I saw him pull one in, and he was just annoyed that it wasn’t a bass. Inland Mountain monsters are there, but they’re the exception, and it’s exactly inverse in the prairies it seems.
He was even nice enough to warm them up a bit after spending so much time in a cold lake, and then released them into an admitably smaller body of water.
Thanks, a few people seem to have misunderstood the title. Lol I’ve caught a few 100 in that same time, it’s only that one frigid unicorn lake that kept ghosting me all these years.

All 3 were identical
I didn’t keep them though, can’t eat trout unless it’s deep fried within an hour of catching them.
More of a salmon guy.
