A lot of slang still used today came from Polari, much of it being bitchy putdowns of fags by other fags. We recognize the same words and the same meanings, but they originated in old faggot subculture. Drag, bitch, butch, camp, chicken (describing a young man), fruit, mince, naff, rough trade, etc. And they did it exactly for the reason OP says, to make it difficult for outsiders to understand, rather like Cockney rhyming slang.

Good video, OP.

to make it difficult for outsiders to understand

In this case, to obstruct anyone that cares about the welfare of children.

al pacino in "Cruising " has entered the chat.... The movie was al most a documentary of the Gay subculture and was full of this kinda stuff....

" a serial killer targeting gay men, particularly those men associated with the leather scene in the late 1970s. The title is a play on words with a dual meaning because "cruising" can describe both police officers on patrol as well as men who are cruising for sex."
