I figured it out in about five seconds after she wrote it on the white board. 35 x 10 = 350, plus 35 x 2 = 70, totaling 420.

What's so fucking hard about that? Common core is intentionally making it more difficult, or even impossible, for children to learn mathematics in their heads.

I did not. I used mental math (as opposed to the written form where the numbers are stacked and the multiplier is multiplied by the multiplicand, forming the product). I began with the easiest groups of numbers to multiply mentally and added them together.

Try opening just the file in a new tab. MP4 has variable encoding systems, some browsers won't play some types on a web page but will play if you use the browser to "open" the file seperately.

The most informative and rewarding math instruction I experienced was in Québec in the 70's , self teaching modules with a teacher who was there to answer questions and grade modules. Unfettered by the other students I was able to blow through Geometry and Algebra in the 8th grade in one school year. My worse experiences were with female math teachers that were barely competent.

Not even comparing the same things. She's teaching a procedure. The person on the right already learned a procedure (and then wastes time on video games).

I was hoping her method would lead to some intuitive understanding of multiplication, but no, hers was just another rote procedure that simply yields an answer. If the goal is merely to find the answer, use a calculator.

I have no problem with teachers giving insight into math, because without intuition about it you can do stupid things, or never really understand what you're doing or why. I found neither half of the video redeeming.

You need a high school matriculation certificate to gain an apprenticeship to become a welder, a boilermaker, a carpenter or a fitter & turner, as well you don't get past the door in any computing science or technical classification without a university degree.

While you won't enter any university or tertiary institution similarly sans matriculation .. is why wogs who completed their studies in India have been brought into the US to man jobs Americans just don't have the qualifications to get.

I never officially graduated graduated High School but was able to get into community college with a GED. From there I got into a 4 year university.

However, I do not recommend anything past a GED for any white male these days. Trades or self taught only. You do not need to waste thousands at a jew university teaching you the white man is bad and racist. Or worst converting them into furries or trans.

Common core tries to get people thinking about math in an abstract way in the theory that it can make everyone great at math. Problem is only a small percentage of people really enjoy playing around with numbers like that. When I first started doing common core math with my kids I loved it, but immediately saw how so many people would hate it. Like the video, the guy just wants to solve the problem and then go play with video games instead of playing with the numbers, me I enjoyed them playing with the numbers.

I'd agree if her visual method offered any insight. But she skipped over the part of decomposition, multiplying the decomposed parts, and how they all total the same. If someone learns intuitive ways of approaching problems, they can quickly mentally rearrange it in their head, often into a form that's easy to solve mentally, or into the simplest form to solve on paper. And also they can be sure their answer isn't wildly wrong.

What they are doing in common core is someting that everyone notices (like you can leave the 0s out if you multiply by 10 and then just add them in the end.)

But go ahead and play around the common core way with 234,563 x 42,8 / 0,5(-2(-0,5+3))
