I looked up the address of the house he lived in at that time, 1712 North Crescent Heights. Yup, just what I thought. Laurel Canyon, the center of all degeneracy in Los Angeles, both then and now. It's been like that since the 20s. All, literally all, of the upcoming rock musicians in the 60s lived there. Frank Zappa somehow had the use of the old Tom Mix house, and made it open for numerous transients, freaks, and other weirdos.

Dennis Hopper just happened to have one of the highest profiles among people already known for degenerate, insane, uncontrollable behavior.
