Former meth users on Voat: What's the longest you've ever been awake while high?

submitted by anon to askanon 3.0 yearsMay 22, 2022 19:15:10 ago (+6/-0)     (askanon)

I've been reading on the subject of sleep deprivation, and it seems I could have given myself some kind of brain damage. I didn't, at least not in the long term, and thank God I quit when I did. I seemed to recovered well, but it took me a while after I quit to get used to keeping a regular sleep schedule. That, and eating proper food.

Sorry for the anon post, but I'd rather not share this under my user name.

I never did meth, believe it or not. However, I had two friends who weren't shy about it and they did it quite often. One of them nearly OD'd on heroin. The other one decided after that that it was time to quit. He didn't want to go out with a whisper, so he spent a bunch of money on meth and then invited a few people over for a gaming tournament. I ended up there for a few hours over two days. Modern Warfare was still pretty new at the time, and they were all focused on seeing how close they could get to a perfect game. One of the people there was a girl who stayed up for three days straight playing the game. I wasn't even sure that she got up to eat or drink anything. She never left when I was there.

In hindsight, I'm pretty glad I never picked up the habit. The one who nearly OD'd on heroin shot himself two years ago. The other who did quit is living a quiet life doing minor IT jobs and just smokes a shit ton of weed.

I've met very few speed users who can regulate it well. When I was living alone, I would do a line in the morning, which would take me through the day and I would sleep in the evening. I kept self-control. That was when I was separated from my wife. When we got back together, it became a competition. If you can do it and keep it under control, good on you and no judgment.

That's not unusual from what people have told me. It really creates a frenzy and a compulsion until it forces you to break down and sleep. I somehow managed 11 days.

Lack of money limited me. Which was probably a good thing. I did enjoy that drug.

Oh, man, so did I. Way too much. When one starts, one never knows the true cost.

That was one of the things I enjoyed about being high, enjoying the quiet and stillness of the night. At least you had some restraint.

Really glad I always liked sleep, so that particular vice never got ahold of me.

Never been the type to stay up for days. Didnt stay in the crystal palace but had a fling with the white lady.

Start feeling really weird if I even miss a night's sleep. That being said would stay up until 7-8am or even noon Friday and then crash out.

I've done coke to the point where I hit about 36 hours. Meth is much crazier, obviously.
