Help with swf file

submitted by stone12345 to AskUpgoat 3.0 yearsJun 26, 2022 21:53:25 ago (+1/-0)     (AskUpgoat)

Anyone know how to open these? None of the guides work anymore
https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/end-of-life-alternative.html
Is the link they all keep sending me to, but they don't have anything besides "discontinued"
Thanks in advance

The only way to get it is to use Wayback machine to grab the archived version of the downloads site which can be found here:
https://web.archive.org/web/20220401020702/https://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/debug_downloads.html

I recommend grabbing both the debugger and standard projector versions. Some swf files for seemingly no reason work better on one than they do the other.

What you want is a Flash Player or SWF Player. (Same thing.)
Or a Flash Emulator. The idea of an emulator being to return flash to your browser. Supposedly even letting you play on a mobile device.
There is even one or two rare browsers that were built to play flash.
They are out there but what was already suggested to you by throwawayaccount is my choice.
The Adobe player has flaws though. Many files have the view expanded beyond what would have been previously seen. Thus showing off screen content. The playback also tends to have centering issues.
There is also some playback issues on a few rare files that simply wont work. This way also requires you to save and play the swf file offline.

For playing flash files in your browser... They may cause issues so be prepared if trying to get playback makes your old browser freeze. Seems to work best in chrome.

Some sites for SWF files.
www.swfchan.com/ (Be prepared for pop ups, captchas , and content you dislike. Suck it up buttercup. Swfchan also has great tips for playback solutions and creating new swfs if you look around enough.)
https://bluemaxima.org/flashpoint/downloads/
https://archive.org/
(Search Archive.org. Flash is scattered here and there. For example when looking by subject. https://archive.org/search.php?query=subject%3A%22Flash%22)

Some game sites. If you can inspect the page you can normally look for the media it has. Find the swf file or active x content and download your thing.

Looking up the name of games tends to be a good way of finding new flash sites. Plenty of flash files have put their site url in the opening of a video or game too. Many of which are defunct though.

Install Adobe's Shockwave Flash.

Um. Fairly sure thats the thing Adobe and several globohomo companies came together to intentionally break in their attempt to murder swf.

It was a decree from Steve Jobs.

You're old. You should remember.

So ive heard it said about him but other companies certainly assisted.
I hated that fucker so much. If the prominence of globohomo woke culture had a harbinger he was it.

He was a weird Syrian catalyst. I wish he had lasted longer. He was a thorn in the side of bill gates, and that was enough to at least have my tacit support. Even if he was also evil in his own right..., but no one is as evil to the core in the worst way as Gates.
