When I'm in groups of people, there's often not even a single white Australian in the group. Sometimes 1 or 2. More often it's a various mix of Asian, Indian, African, and various European people.

But a white Australian, born to white Australian parents, I don't see that too often.

It depends which part of Melbourne you are. Asians (including chinks) are over in the Eastern suburbs. Africans and Muslim variants are in the west. Jews are in St Kilda and Elsternwick.

That said, Melbourne city has all sorts of diversity and enrichment descending upon it in the night hours. You might even be lucky to witness gang fights between Africans and Maoris.

I'm just refferring to the, city city. Even when I went little out of the grid to somewhere like Richmond or South Yarra I would see mostly whites.

I did see the start of a fight between two African groups in the city once (on Collins St) before I was racist, but I saw the pre-fight chimp "dancing" and hollering and arm waving and GTFO because I could see what was coming.

Huge number of Irish went there and settled in the past 10/15 years. I went but didn’t really like it so left, but a lot of my mates stayed on and have since started Aussie families down there. In 2021, 48.2 per cent of Australians reported having a parent born overseas.

This figure was 41 per cent 30 years ago.

It also found that the population continues to be drawn from across the globe, with 27.6 per cent of people reporting a birthplace overseas.

Where do we come from?
The census asked Australians to report their "ancestry", as opposed to their country of birth or ethnicity. The top responses were:

English (33 per cent)
Australian (29.9 per cent)
Irish (9.5 per cent)
Scottish (8.6 per cent)
Chinese (5.5 per cent)

Speaking a language other than English at home
The number of people who used a language other than English at home has increased by nearly 800,000 (792,062) from 2016, to more than 5.5 million people (5,663,709).

Of this group, 852,706 reported that they do not speak English well or at all.

"The top 5 languages used at home, other than English, are Mandarin (2.7 per cent), Arabic (1.4 per cent), Vietnamese (1.3 per cent), Cantonese (1.2 per cent) and Punjabi (0.9 per cent)." - SBS .

Largest increase in country of birth was noted from India
In this latest census, the largest increase in country of birth,with 217,963 additional people counted. This means that India has overtaken China and New Zealand to become the third-largest country of birth, behind Australia and England.
