I haven't watched that show since 2010, and it was barely tolerable then. I have all of the seasons in my library, which I play while I work. I remember the original season and watched the first episode live in 1975. They were liberals for decades, but they really ramped it up about 2000, when the retarded Bush son was president. I thought he was about as stupid as Jerry Ford and twice and dangerous, but they weren't able to write cleverly about presidential politics as they used to even in the 90s. It was partisan, heavy-handed, and sarcastic, which unfortunately has taken the place of wit these days.

These days, that's all SNL is: Vulgar sarcasm, nastiness, and partisan politics. They don't understand cleverness and wit, and substitute it for insults and name-calling. How they have fallen.

That show has been desperately hung on to by the network since 1979. I think they were trying to confirm to themselves that they could manipulate the concept of funny and force Adam Sandler type shit on a people and have some go along with it.
