Ethanol is literally burning food. The use hectares of farmland just producing ethanol. It's such a fucking waste.

Don't tell that to Iowans...pork and corn is all they know.

Well either this or walk to work.

No wonder you fail hard

I miss ethanol-free / non-oxygenated gas. My turbo runs happier on the real stuff.

I miss diesel that actually had some lubrication to it. Fun fact the Bosch cp4 injection pump only fails in America because our diesel is so shit. You literally have to buy additives or it can randomly fail.

Fully believe it. The premium unleaded in California is garbage. Have to add octane booster and run fuel system cleaner with every tank otherwise I get nasty misfires and lose about 4mpg.

Zinc?

Oxygenated would improve performance all things being equal.

To a point. There's an optimal fuel:oxygen ratio . It's possible that between both the pre-oxygenated fuel and the turbo-charger pushing as much air as it can into the cylinders, there's a sub-optimal amount of fuel per unit oxygen.

There's also a question of which approach does a better job dispersing oxygen atoms. Since it doesn't bind it to the liquid form of the fuel, the turbo might do a better job of aerosolizing the O2 so that each molecule is at a more optimally reactive distance from the right amount of hydro-carbons.

It might also be that the oxygenated fuel is already dispersed quite well by the fuel injectors. The turbo probably also adds a bunch of nitrogen, which would just take up space and get in the way of more useful molecules.

Maybe the oxygenated fuel means everyone gets turbo-charged performance without needing a turbo-charger? I'd want to see some data (0-60 stopwatch, range per gallon, with and without oxygenation, with and without turbo, etc.) before making any conclusions but maybe bobdole9 should get his turbo removed if oxygenated is more commonly available?

Not for me. Ethanol free 91 will get me 29-30mpg interstate (75mph) versus E-10 93 only ever reached 27mpg tops.

Performance not mileage.

I just pour three quarts of motor oil in my tank. I love doing that at the gas station next to one of those hippy cars. The looks on their faces is glorious.

My truck is multifuel so I could run it on gas if I want.

Sweet find.

I know a local Shell in my area took the ethanol free sign off their pumps.
I never went in to ask about it but it’s on this map as ethanol free.
I’ll have to look in to it.

It’s better and cheaper having 91 instead of 94 cause you don’t need high octane in the average low compression engine.

You kickass OP.
Never even occurred to me such a website might exist

YOU WILL PAY MORE, note that. Lurker here. I have been using ethanol free fuel now over 25 years because my trucks are 1983, 1984, 1995, 2wd Jeep 1996, 1994 chevy caprice. In the old days, ethanol would rot all plastic fuel lines, rubber hoses, the hoses would just "crumble" if you grabbed a hold of them. I have replaced every fuel line/hose and ALL emission rubber hoses because they were rotten on the inside. I paid $6.39 a gallon yesterday for premium, 91 octane. Every tank I have I will let it get down to half a tank and go fill up. I alternate octane by getting 87 in one fill up, next time I will get premium, 91. $5.99 a gallon for 89 octane. My 35 year old engines are particular, still pass emissions too, our County got rid of emissions earlier this year.

ALWAYS use ethanol free in your small engines, lawnmowers, chainsaws and such. Surely by now, the small engine people make hoses better now that can withstand the water content from ethanol. IDC. I'm not taking the chance.

Summary, where I'm at = $5.99 87 octane

$6.19 89 octane

$6.39 premium 91 octane.

NORMAL gas w/ethanol = $4.29 gallon, 87 octane

$4.49 89 octane

$4.69 91 octane.

Oh yes. I don't flinch anymore when I think about the price. It has been/will always be about $1.50 more per gallon. I don't care. I don't want any of that garbage in my engines.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 3.0 yearsJun 29, 2022 19:39:23 ago (+1/-0)

Every gas station around me has ethanol free gasoline.

[ - ] RobertJHarsh 1 point 3.0 yearsJun 29, 2022 16:59:55 ago (+1/-0)

I had an 98 F-150 and I had no problem getting 380 miles out of a tank and then they introduced that E10 shit and it lost almost 100 miles of range. Cocksuckers.

It was all race gas suppliers and it was lacking at that. I know of dozens of more suppliers of race gas then were listed.
