That's actually pretty kickass. You know it's going to hurt a little but the plane is repairable for the most part.

I've heard that deploying the parachutes blows out a part of the frame, and the plane is a total loss at that point.

Yeah, generally a total loss. Who cates though when you get to live

That would be interesting to read. It does sort of make sense.

Even the landing looks like it bent the frame at which point... you might be better off welding a new one. Is possible a good part of the motor would survive and be reusable, which is something.

Is it a standard feature to have a parachute on a tiny plane? And good on the pilot...nosedive crash survivor.

It's been an option since the late 90s on single-engine aircraft from Cirrus. It's informally known as a ballistic recovery system, but Cirrus calls it CAPS (Cirrus Airframe Parachute System).

Generally meant to be a last resort, not for a simple engine failure. If the engine dies, you look for a place to set it down. And below a certain altitude it won't have enough time to deploy anyway.

In fact, most pilots with planes equipped with a parachute will brief the takeoff in various segments.

Below V1 (the speed at which the plane MUST take off, because it's going too fast to stop before running out of runway) = Stop on the ground.

V1 until a predetermined altitude (I think 500' AGL) = land straight ahead.

Above previous altitude to pattern altitude = parachute available, pull if needed.

Above pattern altitude = Return to field.

If the engine up and dies higher than that, there's usually plenty of time to figure out either how to get it going again or find a place to land. Your main priorities (in order) are

1. Aviate (fly the damn plane)
2. Navigate (avoid obstacles)
3. Communicate (contact tower/atc/etc to let them know what's going on)
4. Problem-solve.

So really the only time you'd need to pull the chute at altitude would be either a catastrophic failure of the airframe, or a unrecoverable loss of control (which could also cause said airframe failure).

Don't help him, just record.

Cameras have turned some whites into niggers.

Looks like the video was filmed in vertical which means it's highly likely it was a nigger filming.

Uhhhh tower were gonna need a crew out here for a hard landing inspection.
