This is a crazy post and comment because i was thinking of posting about highland cattle recently. The video is spot on, they are friendly, smart and easy to care for (other than the horns). But to address the taste question: the steaks I'm getting are pretty much low tier Waigu. Amazing marbling, transcendental flavor and big yield. I couldn't fkn believe it when i saw the first cuts.

Now I do think being organic and free range has a lot to do with that, so results may vary, but I'd pick them over Angus any day. I'm definitely picking up more, the mini breed this time, to be easier on the land.

This is the real question. I wouldn't raise cattle for companionship.

I'm sure much better than whatever cattle are raised on cheap imported grain feed these days.

These days now, the cheap beef and steaks are produced in other countries and packed into 40 foot freezer containers on container ships. Go to a local butcher!
