It's extremely difficult to read. The chapters, or surahs, are ordered by length, not chronologically by oldest to newest in the life of Muhammed. And there are literally places where something in one surah explicitly countermands something in another surah. Because Allah kept changing his mind, I guess.

Pretty much. Plenty of "moderates" who ignore the violent verses, but religious leaders, extremists and definitely terrorists are huge fan of the abrogation tradition, which is a big thing in Islam. They have councils and old texts establishing it a central part of the political side of it.
This is why "moderates" can only say the actions of terrorist are wrong. If they try to argue with the the terrorists over their reasoning or justification the radicals/terrorists just say "So you disagree with the word of Mohammed?" and the conversation is over.

Another great book is Al-Qaeda by Jason Burke where he explains how al qaeda is more an idea and world view then an organisation. I am currently reading it because Muslims have managed to get respect by frightening people and Whites need to be feared and respected once again. There is much to learn from these people in how to force people submit to your will.

When I was at college for my art degree (works excellently with web design, piss off, haters), I did a diptich of a burning cross (on the right) and a burning Quran (on the left). 2 Ortho litho 8x10, backlit with el-sheets, each object image taken a quarter of a second apart and stacked for a flat "3D" appearance that sucked you in really well (so the cross had two images stacked, same with the Quran).

The idea was if you read left to right, you'd see the Quran and have one reaction only to flip that when you moved to the image on the right. If you read right to left (like for the Quran), you'd see the cross burning first. The goal was to simultaneously piss everyone off while shaming them if they said anything (using diversity bullshit against them). The only thing people could do would be to allow themselves to be pigeon-holed into shame for each reaction they had an wanted to vocalize. Essentially, it blue screens all the NPCs.

Since the Quran was there, it wasn't racism (obviously) but while I was strongly encouraged to do those (and other photos), I was not allowed to show them at the college nor in any art show. I was told that the only place I could show such images would be in a museum or similarly well guarded display.
