does that new delta 8 and 9 stuff have a different effect than pot?

submitted by osomperne to AskGoats 2.7 yearsAug 12, 2022 16:47:12 ago (+2/-0)     (AskGoats)

A buddy of mine has started smoking it regularly and he has been losing track of situational awareness right in front of him and he's been incredibly argumentative; grossly misinterpreting things people around him say and going on about completely off-topic stuff

There is a small percentage of people who have a negative reaction and some sort of psychosis from marijuana. Your friend could be in this category.

Any way I can test this theory outside of him being high?

[ - ] Shitheel 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 08:26:55 ago (+0/-0)

Unfortunately I don't know how to do that. It may be one of those things that only show up as a side effect.

Regular smokers (more than once a day) are like that because they are in a perpetual state of hangover and withdrawal except for a short window after they smoke. If he's smoking before work he's a junkie.

I'll take a stoner over some of these pharmaceutical zombies that are out and about. Was one myself for six months (shitty Iowa doctors)...ditzy doofus types are better than those that literally have no short term memory.

The delta 8 strangely started turning up in convenience stores just about the same time as the beginning of the Biden administration. Maybe it's a coincidence, but I don't trust it. I've personally tried the edibles, and they are terrifying. They made me hallucinate and I'll never use them again. I say that as a person that uses mushrooms, mescaline, or lsd twice a year for mental health.

The delta 8 stuff was clearly planted by specific political favorites. Why weren't average folk in on it? I don't even no anyone who knows anyone who knows anyone who started selling their product immediately. And I'm obviously not talking about the retail outlets, for obvious reasons

Never hallucinated from any pot derivative before. Red oil was an almost. What edibles and what amount caused it?

[ - ] Not_a_redfugee 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 12, 2022 18:33:25 ago (+0/-0)

Delta 8 gives you a much more mellow and subtle high than regular weed. Not a fan of the taste though. But yeah it's not as strong as regular THC so I think its better for when you want to "just get a little high"

[ - ] Youdgetfuckedfaggot 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 12, 2022 18:13:33 ago (+1/-0)

Probably harder drugs and he just tells you it's delta8. Like others have said, it's generally known as weaker than 'real' shit. I never understood why someone would buy it.

[ - ] osomperne [op] 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 12, 2022 19:58:25 ago (+1/-0)

In the 60s people were getting high on weed with 2% of the thc as now... There is no need to always smoke the highest potency of pot..

It's a common American fallacy that if a little of something is good then an infinite amount is the best

[ - ] Redhairin 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 14, 2022 02:15:37 ago (+0/-0)

Especially not in an uncontrolled environment....'set and setting' must always be respected...especially with potent shit. For the same reason you don't get drunk and pass out in an alley or park. Predators love soft targets.

What does spice do? I don't know anything about it

[ - ] Shitheel 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 14, 2022 08:58:19 ago (+0/-0)

Puts you in the hospital. I think it probably an OD thing, someone correct me if I'm wrong. But some people were having terrible reactions to it.

[ - ] bobdole9 2 points 2.7 yearsAug 12, 2022 17:29:04 ago (+2/-0)

Make sure its not Spice or K2. Delta-9 is the regular THC type, Delta-8 can come from hemp. May have some chemical horseshit if its not the plant itself.

Are you / buddy in a legal state?

[ - ] osomperne [op] 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 12, 2022 19:59:23 ago (+0/-0)

Yes it's legal here

[ - ] bobdole9 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 12, 2022 20:21:42 ago (+0/-0)

May be too much sativa. Sativas are the varieties that would impair a person like you describe. Could also be too much in general. There's a chance buddy is too high and he's pissed that he cannot communicate like normal. Not so much mad at a person, just frustrating to use 30 words when usually 10 suffices.

Ask him why he's being a dick (or a more appropriate phrase to get to the same point)?

[ - ] osomperne [op] 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 13, 2022 12:04:31 ago (+0/-0)

If anyone asks him why he's getting so upset so easily he pretends it's an isolated incident that that person completely brought onto him and it's completely their fault

[ - ] bobdole9 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 13, 2022 18:20:30 ago (+0/-0)

To me, sounds like he's being a dick. Would treat him as a dick, since that's some dickish behavior.

[ - ] Rob3122 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 12, 2022 17:24:51 ago (+1/-0)

It's not anywhere as strong as real weed. I'm guessing your friend has been smoking to much for to long.

[ - ] Shitheel 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 14, 2022 08:56:06 ago (+0/-0)

Or he's never smoked anything before this.

[ - ] FreeinTX 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 12, 2022 17:05:03 ago (+1/-0)

Don't do it. It's chemical horseshit.

[ - ] lord_nougat 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 12, 2022 16:59:58 ago (+0/-0)

What the hell is that?

I hear they're a terrible airline.

Delta-8 THC (or Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol) is a naturally occurring chemical compound called a cannabinoid that’s found in small traces in hemp and cannabis (marijuana) plants. Its popularity is on the rise, and you can find it everywhere from boutique weed dispensaries to convenience store shelves.
Why is there such a growing demand for Delta-8? For starters, its chemical structure is similar to that of its well-known cousin, Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta-9-THC), the main psychoactive compound found in marijuana. That’s what gets you “high.”
Both Delta-8 and Delta-9 are forms of THC. But when people refer to THC, they usually mean the Delta-9 that’s found in high concentrations in marijuana. Both produce a euphoric, fuzzy feeling, but Delta-8 causes a milder high.
In fact, Delta-8 is often referred to as “marijuana-lite” or “diet weed.” Other common THC side effects like paranoia, anxiety, and drowsiness are also less potent.
Another reason for Delta-8’s growing popularity is that, unlike heavily regulated THC, Delta-8 is legal to use in most states. That’s because it’s extracted mostly from hemp-derived CBD, which is legal to farm across the U.S.
About a dozen states, including Colorado, Oregon, New York and Washington, have banned hemp-derived Delta-8 and more states are considering bills to outlaw the compound.
The irony of all this is that the Farm Bill, which was focused on legalizing industrial hemp and hemp-derived products like CBD, legalized products like Delta-8. These products are not regulated by state marijuana programs and are not required to be tested and sold through cannabis dispensaries. This is why bodegas and local smoke shops sell these products legally and how states that don’t have access to legal cannabis host two markets: an illicit marijuana trade and a legal, yet-unregulated, Delta-8 industry.
“The only reason Delta-8 exists at all is because it’s a product of prohibition,” says Jim Higdon, a former journalist and author who now runs Cornbread Hemp, which sells certified-organic CBD products from Kentucky to all 50 states. “It exists because there's a demand for Delta-9 THC, which is still restricted because of bullshit state and federal laws. It is the bathtub gin of the 2020s.”
For Kentucky’s Delta-8 retailers, the controversy helped increase consumer awareness that there is a product like marijuana but legal in their state. “Honestly, I think it just created the opposite effect of what was intended—it's been phenomenal,” says Taylor, who sells about $50,000 worth of Delta-8 products a month from her store on Moser Road in Louisville.

Ooh, that sounds interesting.

It is much like smoking resin if you know what that's like. It's similar to a pot high, but after a certain amount I just feel sleepy.

Your buddy sounds like he has something else going on. I guess it's possible but I don't see a D8/9 smoker being belligerent or argumentative.
