Do they not have real estate tax in AUS that if not paid results in government confiscation? How long can a property be abandoned before the government takes action for no utilities?

I can't answer that question. There is an abandoned property near where I live - it was slated to become multi housing but it's been lying there empty for years.

And then there is this case - big news in Melbourne this week. A crypto billionaire bought this empty mansion in one of Melbourne's swankiest suburbs -

TIL: Melbourne has at least one swanky suburb.

Just kidding, I watched Miss Fisher's murder mysteries!

But still... i guess just because I only know rich people in Sydney, and everyone I know in Melbourne and Perth and stuff are normal middle class types... only Australianer.

I can see a situation where a developer buys a property on speculation, keeps the taxes paid, and lets it sit vacant. It may have had squatters over the years.

I hate it when I find one of those things under the bed.
