I've experienced this a lot lately. I've been leaving my phone in my car or home more often to disconnect from it a bit more. The thing is that people are trained now to want an instantaneous response to their messages and calls. I've had one family member start calling my parents because I took an hour to return his call after I went to get some groceries. I told them to back off starting to worry everyone just because I don't want to talk to them immediately. There's a bit of a narcissism element in how phones have trained people to want direct responses. It worries me that people might be getting too entitled when it comes to communication, let alone accepting the idea that they are being dismissed by someone else.

Damn straight. I'm starting to think that this is behavior blending in from social media use. Everyone wants to be "popular" through the indication that they're watched and responded to as fast as possible, as if that means something. Amazing how we went from "don't talk to strangers" when I was kid to "post everything you do online so you get a visit from the police when you don't follow your own routines."
