A 6% swing in one day is insginificant for any crypto. Swings of +/- 10%/day is normal.

Why is it not tanking harder? My brother who is a pretty smart guy thought etherium was the way to go if you were going into crypto then this shit happens???

Because even if centralization is a problem the consequences for users will take a while to manifest. Currently, ETH isn't any more or less useful than it was last week.
