Alex Jones had been saying that stuff about engineered viruses for years. We needed a hook to explain all the mutants in the game, an alien virus worked. The voice actors were hired and recorded by our publisher. The studio didn’t have a say, and we never got to meet any of them, we just got the recordings. The WHO and CDC had no involvement. We just wove together conspiracies that were already out there. The original story had the children of Operation Paperclip scientists (now adults that lived their entire lives under Area51) helping to fight the bad guys, but the publisher didn’t want the descendants of Nazi war criminals to be the good guys. So they axed it.

I did get to meet Bob Lazar. We rented him for a few hours to talk about Area51.

I’m doxxing myself here, but I was one of the leads on Area51. I wrote the beats of the story because I was the ‘conspiracy’ guy at the studio. The writer that wrote the dialogue spent a lot of time talking to me about conspiracies. We took a bit of everything. Mostly Alex Jones, the X-Files, and a book called, ‘Alien Agenda’.

It wasn’t the Illuminati… it was just me and a handful of normal dudes, trying to get paid.
