Got some competitive offers from other employers recently.

Been getting a lot of praise for my recent work from all the bosses (including my direct boss to who this email was written).

In a critical position that would be expensive to re-train someone on.

Boss just sent an email to have a meeting on Wednesday. I'm prepared to reiterate the info from my original email (pretty much what is said above, with cited sources).

What do you guys think?

The secret in the negotiation is that they don’t know how how serious you are or the offers or the amount.

My pitch would be this: Thank you for meeting with me. I enjoy working for you and the relationships here at work. With the rising costs of everything, I cannot help but begin to entertain some of the offers that I have been receiving from competitors. If I could be making X dollars that would help me to stay focused on my work here. You’ve been great and really hoping to work something out.

never accept a counter offer. statistically speaking around 60 or 70% of people who accepted on end up leaving the company, because there is now bad blood in knowing the company could have fairly compensated you by this much, but didn't.

yes it does. I got my meeting by turning in my 2 weeks. They got so struck by it they had to set a meeting at a steakhouse for lunch the next day. I made them wait one more day for my bottom line. I told them the next day and they accepted ... wiping sweat off their brow.

An email saying you're getting competitive offers smells of "I don't want to go anywhere so I'll probably settle for less than the max."

The two weeks method and "not caring" attitude strongly signals to the company that the employee is ready to move on...so if you want that employee to stay for whatever reason, be prepared to kiss the employee’s ass.

You'll NEVER get paid more for good work you're already doing. Best bet is to detail how you will take on MORE work and how well you'll do that in addition to what you're already doing. Then be firm about the salary expectation related to said extra work. Decide ahead of time if it'll be worth it.
