So many things don't even make sense. "Hey Hans, should we use our MG to take out the Americans a hundred yards away?" "No, let's trick them into arm's reach and use our pistol to kill one, then stand around while the other one shoots us all".
Most likely is the Germans did successfully surrender, Audie took their weapons, and then gunned them down. His friend called him a murderer guilty of war crimes so got a bullet too.

It doesn't make sense because its Hollywood bullshit. He was a Hollywood actor. He began acting in 1948. I'm sure much, if not all, of his combat history is an act as well.

I recall Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman. The Pentagon wrote fantastical tales of their exploits and used them for recruitment. Lynch said in her book that it was all made up propaganda. Tillmans heroic story came about as a cover up of his murder by his own men. His parents sued the government 7 times before they got the truth.

So I have a hard time believing war stories told by the government.
