Preamble: I'm an only child. Mother passed 20 years ago, I'm almost 50. Main family is in a neighboring state, mother is buried in the family plot, there is one plot left. Family is 6 aunts, and their extended families. I'm the 2nd youngest in the entire family, and one of 3 total single people in the family.

So I had a tornado 5 minutes from my house yesterday. I didn't know until a work colleague asked me in M$ teams chat if I was ok. I don't watch TV or have media on. so I had to tune into TV and see the warnings (working from home obviously). Kind of stressful, especially because my home is all I have. Worked through the rest of the day, then sat in my recliner to have some drinks and binge some Gordon Ramsey shows I downloaded. Out of the blue one of my eldest aunts (89 years old I believe) called my cell. I only hear from her once every 2-5 years, and usually something bad happened. I was totally not in the mood, and let it go to voicemail. 10 minutes later another of my aunts calls me. <oh shit what happened, guess I'll have to answer>

Turns out my step-father had sent a letter to them discussing the burial plot next to my mother. I love him, and he was more of a father to me than my real dad. I still speak and interact with him to this day 10x more than my real dad. Anyway, stressful day at work beyond the tornado, I'm expecting news of a family member passing. Nope, it's about all my aunts saying no to him being buried there, they want the plot to go to me. This plot is in a beautiful area, a place I do love, and the last one. It was purchased in the 1950's when my mother was a toddler. Grandma, Grandpa, Grandpa's brother, Uncle, and Mom and all buried there. One plot of the original 6 is left, and all my aunts rallied saying the plot is mine.

I've never spent a second of thought on where I might be buried. I was stressed about who died. Turns out is was a conversation a bunch of 85+ year old women I talk to about once every 2 years thought I should be buried at.

Have a few cocktails in you, and get that call / conversation. There's 30+ direct family members older, and much older than me. And they want me to have the last original family plot next to my mother. How do you process that? My step father was totally devoted to my mother, but in reality has no ties to the area. In fact he has more ties in Alaska, or another state where the family homestead was. He has 3 previous children all local to me and him now, and their extended families, heck he's a great-grandfather now.

Sorry for the ramble, just had to put it all out there. I'm pretty ok with getting the plot, it's just so random middle of the week, let's stress camelsmiller with another decision he wasn't ready for. PLEASE tell me this is a weird situation to be in or I'll go insane.
