other than to show you're signaling virtue (anything for the environment!) I don't see why you would buy something that has practically nothing but drawbacks over the long-standing fossil fuel-powered car.

Man has learnt how to make all those parts go up and down and around and around very reliably and efficiently on the other side not a single country has the electrical infrastructure to support a high number of electric vehicles.

If you never go anywhere but the office and back through hellish traffic every drab day over and over and over forever they can be an adequate alternative. Particularly when the office provides electrical hookups for the things at no additional charge so you can feel like you're not actually paying for it. I mean, I was totally one of those for a long time and I get it. People I know use them just that way, and drive the porsche on the weekends.

Wrong, boekanier, wrong. Yes, wrong. The reason being you have not acknowledged one of the main advantages of electric over petrol and it is...more reliable because of less moving parts to ... stop moving.
