Polarized lenses also can help you see dramatically better while driving. They're like a cheat code for driving in afternoon storms.

Luckily, since its not 2005 anymore, most screens are legible with polarized lenses as well. Best $20 add-on to perscription sunglasses ever.

Not in my experience. Most of my screens are not readable with polarized sunglasses when oriented the 'wrong' way. I use non-polarized sunglasses when driving.

I have recently run across an unfortunately purchased several glasses that claim to be polarized but when I received them or not. If you want to know if your glasses are polarized then hold them in a normal manner and then turn them vertically while still looking through them and you should see the reflections on the road or a lake or any reflection change. When the glasses are in One direction it should diminish dramatically and when it's in the other direction it should not. That's what polarized glasses do. Another test is if you have polarized glasses you should be able to see your cell phone screen when you hold it one way but you should not be able to see it when you hold it the other way because cell phones are a lot on two layers of polarization in if your glasses adding an additional layer of polarization it's going to make the screen completely black.

If you're buying polarized glasses, testing is easy. Pick up 2 pairs, turn one pair 90 degrees, and look through both lenses together at the same time.

The cell phone thing typically won't work these days unless maybe if you have a cheap screen protector.

I never liked them for flying. Surface water has similar polarization so when I turn my head it all goes bright or dim simultaneously. It's super annoying when over many lakes or ocean. Down low the effect depends more on waves and ripples than head position. There the glare gets cut out randomly and it's like having randomized x-ray vision. Up high it's just a light dimmer for water that flickers every time I turn my head.

Usually fish will not be so numerous nor are they at the surface. There are reasons to wear polarized lens, of course, but to claim that they will generally help the sports fisherman spot fish is laughable. Besides all you have to do is change your viewing position a bit and you're able to see into the water as well with the naked eye.

I have no idea what a "rock fisherman" is but will take at face value your assertion that in this case they are useful. The exception does not make the case, however. Do I wear polarized lens when I fish? Yes. Because they can offer an advantage in some instances, for example when netting a fish. But will they help me catch more fish? Ha! I wish but sadly nope.
