They’re making 60, 70 100K a year and refusing to pay back student loans? FUCK THESE COMMIE COCKSUCKERS! I have paid back $14K of debt with 16% interest in like one year back when I made a fraction of what they make AND I lived on my own!! I paid off a small mortgage already and these cocksuckers are whining about $20K-$30K? Heaven forbid they should have to budget their monies and not spend it all on trendy bars and X-Box!

last i read a certain amount loans had to be cleared from a lender's the books before that lender could loan more money. is that the case currently? if not then loan payback should not matter?

OP, I understand your point, but where in the article does it say what the annual income is? Nonetheless, I understand your perspective. I too pay the debts I am contractually obliged to repay, and I've had some very difficult debt I will finally pay off in the next few months. Other than the mortgage, I'll be free and clear, and I did this on a modest income.

Which EXACTLY why I never took a student loan and told my sons never to do that. Debt equals bondage, and debt to the government is never overlooked until the last drop of blood is collected. One should never have unnecessary debt, especially credit card debt.

1st, you're full of shit. If you made a "fraction" of $60k, you wouldn't have repayed $14K at 16%.

2nd, today's "middle class" is well over $100k/yr. $60k isn't much over the poverty line.

3rd, the average college graduate is in over $55k in debt. The lowered average is brought down by those who didn't graduate but still owe the money.

4th, when you are in college, you could pay for school with a side job. Today, a side job doesn't cover spending money, much less rent, books and tuition.

And let's not even start the discussion on what happens if your default on a student loan, versus any other type of debt.

I did pay it back. Probably in 16 months. Making $40K a year. I ate very frugally and didn’t buy myself anything until I got it down to like $3K.

I put 80% down on my apartment and paid my mortgage off in 18 months, as well.

Just because you don’t have the discipline to do what I did, you don’t get to discount it.

This is why, with no college degree, I own 4 Rolexes and wear $1000 suits and $400 shoes. Just my cologne collection is probably 2-3 semesters of tuition for these fucking whiners.

Yes, but those college graduates are likely making $60K-$70K, so it somewhat balances out. I know how inflation works, thanks. In fact, I know how a lot of things work. That is why, without ANY help from parents or relatives, I have a paid off mortgage, $50K in wristwatches, and enough cash to get my dick sucked for 7 years straight in another country while still paying my bills here.

They will get auto set to 0 dependants, and full withholding for the income tax, and every penny overpaid will go to the student loans, never getting a return, and they will never qualify for any federal government benie again. After they die, the federal government will garnish assets and life insurance policy benies. They may not even qualify for SS.

And, realistically, the debt is unenforceable but you won't find a lawyer to fight for you or a court judge to agree.

Oh, and faggot OP, it was probably your fault that colleges charge what they do, making it impossible for the middle class student to go to school without loans, and cannot discharge this debt in bankruptcy, and once in default, can never get free and clear of the debt.

Did you vote for the people who passed the laws that resulted in teaching children in school that college was important to get a good job?

Did you vote for the people who passed laws that required banks issue government backed loans to people who no credit or clear ability to pay those debts back?

Did you vote for the politicians that made student loan debts non-dischargeable in bankruptcy?

Did you vote for the politicians that made defaulting on these debts as oppressive as they are?

Did you vote for the politicians that fucked this economy up?

Did you vote for the politicians that allows garnishing of wages for failure to pay this debt?

And, do you pay loans that you don't actually owe? Aren't loans required to be enforceable to collect the debt? If you could show the debt is unenforceable, should that debt result in cancelation of debt and not a finding of default and aggressive debt collection practices?
