I have a 2012 Volkswagen sedan and it's been major a pain in the ass to get it running appropriately. It still sits in front of my house for one or two months at a time when I need to fix something, once it sat for 9 months. I can't even take it to the dealer as they are a TOTAL ripoff, lying to every customer and they don't even have parts anymore. Besides that I like driving it when it works.
Seems like that model would work in today's world. People are less tied up, it seems, in "my cool car" and more interested in reliable transportation. Imagine if there was a car that all the spare parts for the 15 years fit any model in during that 15 years, and the only changes made were to improve efficiency and comfort.
