From the late 80s to the mid 90s, it hit its stride and was more often than not very funny. It started to go downhill when they brought in Cheri Oteri, with her constant yelling. It multiplied when Will Ferrell joined the cast. Some people don't realize that increasing your volume doesn't make your character or dialogue funnier, just much more irritating.
