You’re on to something… after reviewing the video, the biggest clue that it’s fake is the way the beam hits his head. It just gives him a little bonk then he overcompensates the reaction. The beam clearly doesn’t weigh enough to do serious damage, or else it would have.

I was helping a guy move some big sheets of plywood out of his pickup and was in the back and he let a piece drop and hit me in the head. Even just from a few feet away that thing really whacked me. That beam would have smashed the guy. I wonder if it was made of balsa wood and hollow.

Also when he leans down to take the measurement, apparantly wants more room, and moves his entire body to the left instead of just sliding the board over so he's positioned in the right place.

He then draws a line and sits perfectly still in position for a couple seconds waiting for the impact.

Finish carpenter here, I think the beam may be made of foam, I have used them a lot on ceilings for a faux 'old house' style remodel, they weigh almost nothing
