Had to deal with this with my car when I was 16 and no one believed the mechanic when they said they had to charge for several hours to change the battery because they had to take off the wheel and fender to get to the battery. We were pissed at that mechanic for years to come

It's done on purpose.
They know exactly what they're doing.

Why are you using tiktok???

[ - ] ghetto_shitlord 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 7, 2022 20:06:58 ago (+0/-0)

The reason is car owners are a captive audience. They live places where it's needed to survive. Fixed that awhile ago.

[ - ] o0shad0o 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 7, 2022 19:16:51 ago (+0/-0)

There have been several proposals to eliminate the hood on the car. Instead, the entire front body is detachable and you need a special piece of equipment to pick it up and wheel it away.

Yeah, WTF.

Current engineers should be dragged out into the street and beaten within an inch of their life and engineering students should be pulled out of school to watch.

This has been true since 1987.

-the fucking stupidity of these people never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think they can't possibly get any dumber, there you go. It's a sad stupid too. It's like, you went to college and they taught you this shit, you don't need to be taught, you need to be able to envision it and mechanically produce it.

You know what? FUCK IT! All engineers get the gas chamber.

What fool paid 20 grand for that POS?

Who's the biggest fool?

"There is no reason..."

It's because fuck you, goy. Give us your shekels.

Porsche 911, as long as they have been making them. Pan goes down. Battery gets installed. Bumpers, fenders everything else around it. Well maybe its changed in the 2000's but thats how it was for the longest time.

One reason I just keep fixing my old truck. This is ridiculous

[ - ] Anus_Expander 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 8, 2022 06:22:49 ago (+0/-0)

I will keep fixing my Astro van until I die. 20 years old and fantastic in every way.

[ - ] Jiggggg 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 8, 2022 14:53:25 ago (+0/-0)

We used to have an astro van! I think it was a 2000. Great ride. My only complaint was that it had power windows that broke pretty early on... They'd go down but take an hour to go back up. Good to hear yours is still going strong.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 8, 2022 18:47:08 ago (+0/-0)

They just needed some lube. My van only has 80k miles on it!

I helped a friend replace his battery in a Dodge Viper. We had to take off the back wheel, unbutton the wheel well liner and remove a battery shroud which was held in place by these weird bolts where you have to go to the dealer and buy a tool to get the bolts off.
We figured, it’s a semi exotic car so there was going to be oddities. I’m surprised to see these hassles making it onto common shitboxes.

[ - ] EAT_MY_ASS_FUCKFACE 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 7, 2022 20:55:53 ago (+1/-0)

It gets worse every fucking year.

[ - ] peety -3 points 2.4 yearsDec 7, 2022 14:00:35 ago (+1/-4)

commonly replaced? really? it's not an air filter. 3-5 years a battery lasts. it could be easily done by turning the wheel to the right and bending the wheel well cover up.

just because it's not obviously easy to everyone, is it really that hard? pretty sure that's a Chrysler Sebring.

don't like working on it? pay someone or don't own one. it's almost like these liberals who cry the blues about a post they disagree with. don't like it, don't read it.

I am familiar with the retardation of the Subaru headlamp situation. This peety guy is missing the fucking point in that basic owner level shit like replacing a lightbulb or a battery should NOT require a trip to the fucking dealership. The fact that you have to turn the wheel, remove the fender well cover, and then feel around until you find the bulb you want to replace is absolutely fucking retarded. (I've done it twice. Subaru finally replaced the bulb for free under some special program and it hasn't burned out since.)

[ - ] peety -1 points 2.4 yearsDec 7, 2022 16:10:05 ago (+0/-1)

i have done it on my niece's car. i imagine some people are handier than others.

you obviously make yourself an ass assuming someone yew never met has or has not worked on older vehicles (or done anything for that matter). yew obviously know little about cars in the late 70's. the smog and garbage that was installed during that time was unbearable. your statement would be better as "you have obviously not worked on older cars from the early 70's and older." not the 80's cuz most of that smog garbage extended to 85-87

sure, all cars are different. cars were built different then. the features of a 1970's vehicle (most of them) are extremely different from the vehicles of today. obviously, designs and construction has improved. more features change and weight losses have changed placement of components. don't have to be an engineer or technician

but i guess that's not obvious to everyone.

[ - ] peety 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 7, 2022 16:26:44 ago (+1/-1)

i'm old enough to have lived in the 80's and look in the classifieds and find a car less than 10, sometimes 15 years old for less than $100 licensed and running. drive it away. bought this 63 chrysler one time for $125 running in a town 20 miles away during autoshop. the teachers were really cool back then. it was an old police car with the black parts spray painted white. drove it back to school and was fuckin around a different day in an alley and drove it thru 30 feet of someones backyard fence and hit their house. had to pay the insurance deductible and nothing else cuz that car was a tank. people were cool back then. these days people are shot when they're pulled over. you people don't know how easy it was back then.

[ - ] Allienonymus 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 7, 2022 16:42:41 ago (+0/-0)

Batteries don't last as long in newer cars. Stock battery maybe two years, replacements a bit longer if you get a better battery.

It's all the gizmos and climate bullshit that cooks them

[ - ] peety 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 7, 2022 18:59:52 ago (+0/-0)

'gizmos' on most vehicles are shut off (when the vehicle is off) where they're plugged in. maybe a stereo that draws higher amperage, almost always aftermarket, can ruin a battery. the battery and vehicle is not designed for it.

nearly every single battery i have had has outlasted the warranty period except a couple. i have bought just over ~dozen, so according to you, i have had pretty good luck with automotive batteries.

climate change is fake. we're supposed to run out of oil over 30 years ago according to (((scientists)))

My car is a 2019 and the original battery is still going strong. Might replace it before next winter but I'm not at all worried for now.

[ - ] Rebooted 4 points 2.4 yearsDec 7, 2022 13:57:11 ago (+4/-0)

As an engineer, yes. Also, it isn't my fault I needed to design it that way! I didn't come up with the constraints!

[ - ] MrDarkWater 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 7, 2022 18:24:24 ago (+0/-0)

Exactly. And how many times will you have to change a battery before the driver totals the damn thing anyway?

Clearly you dont work on your own Ford..... I have an entire drawer of "Ford Tools" that consists of wrenches bent at weird angles and different tools welded together to get around "Ford engineering"! If you want to talk about fucked engineering, lets discuss an entire series of trucks that are "designed" to be worked on by removing the entire fucking cab of the truck. I drive Ford, but hate them for the reasons outlined in this video.

I had a broken up pipe to the turbos, and had to replace the high pressure fuel pump, (inside the lifter valley and underneath the turbos) Its a two day job. The first day consists of lying on the engine trying to remove six bolts up against the firewall and behind the turbo. You get maybe enough turn on that bolt that you can flip an end wrench and hope you get enough rotation out of the head to get the wrench back to a position you can do it all again. And the whole time you get to have the turbo piping jabbing your chest and the hood latch poking you in the junk. Then you get to crawl throuh the front left fender well to get to the other end of the pipe. Had to heat a wrench int an s shape to clear the flange and the firewall. Believe me, I know fords, there are other brands out there that are worse. But not many. That being said, I wouldnt trade my truck for any other diesel. There is no reason a truck that big should move that fast. You just have to get all of the epa garbage off of it, thats what makes them unreliable. Fuck regen cycles. I am not really referring to bolt on parts with my comment. Its the core parts that ford likes to hide.

There is, they have to make room for the computers that track how you drive, and sense how close you get to other cars.

A jewish monopoly that punishes you for being their consumer by creating false situations they have to fix for a charge. This is a dealership scam.
Trying to get you to go to the dealership for repairs of things the jews broke on purpose by design.

[ - ] BulletStopper 3 points 2.4 yearsDec 7, 2022 14:59:01 ago (+3/-0)

And now you know why mechanics hate designers.

[ - ] Rotteuxx 3 points 2.4 yearsDec 7, 2022 12:33:35 ago (+3/-0)

This is exactly why i bought a used GMT800 truck last fall, very decent platform with tons of space to work, minimal electronics & spare parts laying around in every yard up here.

Volvo doesn't do shit like that. The last volvo I drove had the battery in the trunk and it was extremely accessible

I can attest to that. I had a VW vanagon with the battery under the passenger seat. that thing was a tank. put a bed in the back and drove it all over the country one summer. the only time it didn't start was in a -30F morning and the battery had so much cold resistance it couldn't push the starter. once the weather warmed up, it started againl ike a charm.

[ - ] Empire_of_the_Mind 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 8, 2022 14:13:53 ago (+0/-0)

In a machine that retails for more than $20k the matter of a quality cable from the battery to the engine compartment in the front is entirely solvable.

[ - ] Belfuro -1 points 2.4 yearsDec 8, 2022 20:19:14 ago (+0/-1)

That's stupid though.

No, it's to maximize revenue at the service department.

It's one thing if it's a sports car and you're trying to maximize performance, but this bullshit is inexcusable.
