The Aussie spider-hunting wasp is similar to the "monster" American tarantula hawk wasp

My least favourite insect-bite so far is the Midge - the itch is something else. A close second is the Tick, again a terrible itch.

Read (or listen to) Bill Bryson's "In an sunburned country")

It's true' everything wants to kill you, and yet, you may find a certain charm in his description of the land and its people.

Australia has the most frightening insects, for real. I couldn’t live there.

The snakes and spiders, esp. the Sydney funnelweb, are a worry but at least when one goes for a walk in the bush you don't need to worry 'bout bears!

I had a tarantula hawk fly into and sting my neck at 100 mph when I was on my motorcycle in Arizona.

I remember trying to look in the mirror as I decelerated to see if I was bleeding. It actually felt like I was stabbed in the neck.

When I got to my hotel in El Paso women in the lobby actually swooned. Men were asking me if they should call an ambulance.

it looked like a bright red 1/2 baseball that was about to burst on my neck! would not recommend.

Being virtually stabbed in the neck at 100 MPH is such a mind-fuck. There is no frame of reference. It is a miracle you didn't wreck!
