Basic hot-pot is pretty easy to make, though you need the proper pot to make it in. Better hot-pot is more difficult and requires ingredients that aren't common in the US. And there are other alternatives that are as easy and tasty as that basic hot-pot so it never really caught on.

On the other hand, the women Mr. Zhang is talking about can't make those alternatives either, they do fast food or microwave pizza.
