Subways and cabs are how you get around in NYC. Driving is dangerous and expensive (parking) there.

Best way to go broke and stay broke. Cabs to and from work can easily run you $200-$400 a week if you aren’t wealthy enough to live in Manhattan and even then it would be like $150 or so. I only take a cab like 3 or 4 times a year and it is almost never to get to work. You’re much better off buying an electric scooter for $2K even if it only lasts a year. You’d get through gridlock, too.

Boxes of candy are not so bad as showtime. I took the A from 59th to 125/145 and got to experience showtime several times a week. Almost got jumped when I lived in lefferts (when I was real broke). An ambulette driver (black dude) from the hospital flagged me down and said there were 8 youths about to jump me.

The only way they will go away is if NYC enacts a vagrancy law like they have in small cities down south, but NYC would never do that because it is easy to abuse that law and infringe upon civil liberties. Many a night, I have lamented NYC's lack of said laws.
