A Little Bird Flew Into My Apartment Through The Stovetop Vent Tonight - Second Time This Has Happened Since I Moved Into This Apartment

I was about 20 minutes away from walking out the door tonight and a bird fell down the ventilation hatch of my stove's fan.
The same thing happened in late 2021 and the poor bird was full of grease but calmed down after a few minutes and even took a little bath after I set out a bowl of water for it.

This bird tonight was freaked out and didn't stop flying around my apartment. The pic I took of it is a screenshot of a video I took (I may upload it later) and got it out of my unit but it's stuck in the hallway of my apartment building. I opened the door for it & tried to shoo it out but it didn't leave and don't know what else to do.

1st time is a random fluke.
2nd time is bizarre.

You need a screen on the outside of the ventilation hatch.

Birds love mein kamph. Calmly read each chapter to the vogel. Biene Kamph.

Yup. Dumb as it is the bird is just looking for a good spot to roost. House vents are an attractive and semi-warm option.

Teach it to bring you fiat.

Little fucker acts like he's trying to get out by sitting on top of the Exit sign in my hallway...

More proof of a sign - it's sitting on one - Exit.

Open the door and let him out, at least he got to the exit.

I tried that already. It just flies in the opposite direction.

I would just like to point out you're using Morton salt. You need to use the salt with iodine in it. It is good for you. Iodine is vital to the proper functioning of the thyroid gland.

[ - ] SunDriedjews 2 points 2.3 yearsJan 15, 2023 02:22:41 ago (+2/-0)

An alternate source of iodine is Lugol's 2% Solution.

2-4 drops is the 'average' daily dose. Don't use if your salt contains iodine.

It has iodine & iodide.

I recently had a bird fly into my house. I used a towel to contain it and bring it outside without harming it.

My cat would be happy to help rescue any bird that comes in here

I think your cat is broken. Mine would just slaughter it and play with it's corpse.

That is an important part of the rescue procedure!

It's a good thing you don't have a gas stove.

Poor birdie would die suddenly and the entire planet would suffer from climate change.

Stuck in the hallway means it's the maintenance man's problem now. Since it's not in your unit, it's unlikely they'll charge any kind of removal fee to get it out of there. Though if you let the property manager know where it came from, you may be able to get the vent hole fixed.

The alternative is to prop the door open and shoo the bird more deliberately. Use a broom to try and control the direction he can fly in. Just remember it's not your problem, since apartment living assumes you defer certain expenses, like vermin-proofing the place.

That is an omen. The gods approve of war with Persia.

It's not bizarre. Birds like the warmth from the stove pipe, but can be overcome by fumes. Tell your apartment manager to put a screen on the roof vent.

That's not even a negative for me.. I like birds.
If you can manage to approach it near an exit put your finger under its chest. Instinctively most birds will hop on. Gently grab the toes with your thumb and let it go outside

It's a sign that WW3 is around the corner. It's taking shelter, little knowing it's doomed.

Please tell me it had a note from Hogwarts.

Did you break into OPs house just to crack a mystery? Nice. I assume you also opened said note -- so what did it say?

1. Yes;
2.'Dear Mr Scyber, we are pleased to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

its a sign that you should buy a portable gas burner and gas bottle

[ - ] GrayDragon 0 points 2.3 yearsJan 15, 2023 06:14:42 ago (+0/-0)

At my brother's house, we had to stop using the stove vent because birds kept nesting in it. Don't want to kill the little birdies.

And as Monica said, we should get a mesh protector, but I'm Le Tired.
