The pastors who have a regular job and pastor on Sundays are usually the legit ones. I've known a few. A good friend of mine installs and fixes septic systems during the week and preaches on Sundays. It's the ones who pastor full-time and make six figures doing so that are part of the machine.

A pastor's job is to connect people to God not the pastor's wants. That's the difference between cults and religions. Mormons deliberately made their president or whatever title he has a prophet. He can tell them anything he wants. Just like Scientology and Charley Manson.

Throw in the 501C non profit standing and their conflict becomes the love of money being the root of evil. The need for money creates the love of it in weak people unconnected to God and therefore on their own.

An educated pastor is no different than any other creepy social science product that thinks it's rational to tell everyone else where to live, what to eat, what to think.

What they're doing is manufacturing words into the language processing hemisphere of the congregation's heads, and there it stays. There's no paraclete, or holy spirit to word processing, and no contact with any soul. The fat fundies think all words (advertising & "I'm hungry") are holy words. I think this passage also relates to what @Jiggggg says above where there is a differentiation to be made between the man with a day job that preaches on the weekend and the full time preacher who has an otherwise normal life with a house and family. There is also something to be said to the fully committed preacher who the has a more communal lifestyle potentially being notably different. What we see happening today in churches is definitely different from what Paul describes in Corinthians where each brother takes his turn speaking while the women keep quiet and what have you. I think it is also important to note scripture about calling no man father in Matthew 23 as we are all just brothers and shouldn't be blindly trusting in the words of a preacher and there should be some discussion going on with regard to beliefs and scriptural applications on situations and so on. It's actually super fun to follow Jesus' example and go into a church preaching the gospel, it doesn't take too long in many cases to see Pharisees resort to citing traditions of men when explaining away why they don't follow the protocols clearly described in the bible. Ask why they don't do communion in the setting of a meal as it is shown every time it happens in the bible and watch how quickly a serpent can change it's skin. Ask why no one seems to follow the basic instruction on praying, fasting and giving in Matthew 6, the way I see it we are not supposed to pray as a group but go ahead and see what you think. The churches have long ago departed from scripture with the basics.

I noticed, in some churches they care way too much about the tithing platter, or they get into your business to an absurd degree, or they think just because you go to church, you now operate as a slave to the pastor, and not a disciple of Christ. Hence, the church, the building becomes the unifying force drawing people together.
