I’ve never seen a video of a lion trotting over for an attack. They strike hard and strike fast. That’s what initially irked me about it.

How do you figure? Turn up the resolution on your monitor.
If you watch closely you can see the lion coming over the hill right before the guy gets up to check the camera

To me, it looks too smooth (different framerate) and the lighting seems off. The contrast between light and dark aren't quite the same as the shot lion.

Could be 100% wrong, just seems off to me.

Yeah, the article gets into that a bit, so I find myself somewhat ambivalent about this, as the older lions tend to kill off the cubs, and the meat does get eaten, and the money that people spend for this goes to the conservation efforts for the endangered species, whereas for the poachers, I would totally agree.

I read all that, and I see what logic supports their actions. But I still don't like it.

Why not take all of that money and put the animal in a huge protected park where it can live out its days peacefully and people can come and see it? Maybe that's a little impractical, but for the animal it's a lot better and far less traumatic than dying of a bullet wound.
