They tried to change the pronunciation of Uranus awhile back. It didn't take but I have heard a person say Urine-us. I just can't believe someone thought Urine-us sounded better than Ur-anus.
Edit: Seems the university middle-brow crowd love urine-us. Euros and their ilk like ur ah nus (never heard that one before) and freedom loving patriots say yur anus as God intended.
Uranus is the Latin name for the ancient Greek God Ouranos. He was basically a personification of the sky/heavens, and he married Gaia (the Earth - Terra in Latin), who gave birth to the 12 Titans.
The youngest of the 12 was Kronos, a personification of Time (and equivalent to the Latin Saturn), who went on to kill his father by castration, on the advice of his mother.
He then married his sister Rhea and proceeded to eat his children as they were born (Poseiden, Hades, Hera, etc) until Zeus was born and his mother hid him in a cave on Crete and fed Kronos a stone instead.
Zeus (Jupiter) then defeats Kronos and frees all his siblings, marries his sister, and starts having babies with her, as is tradition.
EDIT: I meant to add, the Latin pronunciation for Uranus IS more or less "Yer Anus". The Greek Ouranos is more or less "Oora Nose". Also Ouranos and Urine both share the same PIE root word which means "showering down" (you know, like rain from the sky - he's the sky god).
High school physics class. All boys school. (Ya, ya whatever.) Funny teacher. He’s introducing us to physics and talking about various displays in the room.
He’s got posters of all the planets and starts naming them. Gets to Uranus, pauses, and says “Yeah I’m not going there.” And moves right on to Neptune.
I was highly stubborn about Pluto being demoted to a dwarf planet until I learned this:
"What has continued to not be up for debate, however, is that Eris [a fucking asteroid] is far more massive than Pluto. Given a nearly identical diameter for Eris and Pluto, Eris’s extra mass makes it the denser of the two dwarf planets."

According to this, the correct pronunciation is "Yer Anus", for what it's worth.

E: While I was joking about the American part, I am not joking about how it was pronounced, at least during the 70s and 80s.

This topic is dear to me because Uranus was unironically my favorite planet as a kid.
It's a fassinating planet.

Once I learned that, fuck Pluto, even with its orbiting satellite.
E: Oh, and this makes it worse:
"The Moon is almost one-third bigger than Pluto."
