Yeah, except that part. I took that as an exaggerated description of flight idle vs ground idle which is the most common fuel savings method used today. They don’t mean literally shut off your engines but to idle them as long as possible to save fuel. But technically the did it say it right there in the 1st paragraph in a click bait way.
Have you ever noticed the umbilical cord that connects to planes at the airport? That is what's called a GPU cable, short for Ground Power Unit. They have to plug that in because the aircraft's engines supply power to its electrical stuff. Thus the horror of being on board a plane for any length of time where the engines are off and that cord is unplugged. The pilots won't be turning their engines off, just idling them down. The article seems misleading in the way it initially states this fact.
