I've only started reading the Gnostic scriptures, but hearsay is that Gnostic believed Jesus was a regular man who rose to divinity through pious living.

Gnosis makes you into a kabbalist, forever seeking for answers everywhere and not archieving anything. Its of most dangerous nature because it infects those of higher intellect that could use it to serve God, and yet Gnosis serves to mock and ridicule God for not providing the answers they seek. Its a form of anthropocentrism that fueled commies (revolution against a righteous state) liberalism (revolution against tradition) and protestantism (revolution against God's Church).

As Catholic, I was never discouraged to read about different views, "more one know, better one can choose" - but that might be more a traditional/national aspect than religious one.

Gnostic mysticism is an old cult/parasitic religion that can't exist on its own -- it needs other religions to impersonate and claim to be the proper "purer" version of.

Christianity already went through a new-age crisis and it was around 1000 AD with the rise of christian gnostics that began preaching that Jesus was truly a gnostic..

It's long and convoluted and their creation myth is long and insane but all you have to know is that the Demiurge is the evil god that has trapped us here and with the correct Gnosis or Knowledge you can escape this plane of existence.

The one thing I will say for gnostic christians over the rest is at least they realize the god of the old testament is a horrifyingly evil false god. Now they just need to figure out that the god of the new testament is the same god.
