Ukraine has always been Russian, going back 12 centuries or more when the tribe was known as Kievan Rus.
Kiev was the cultural center of their territory.

Nice try but Kievan Rus' became the Eastern Slavic nations of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine in the 9th century.

They had agriculture, ask the Pilgrims about squash and maize.
They had dogs. No wheels, but they had this:
