Get your carry permit. Carry a gun. It doesn't matter how adept you are at self defense, if enough people jump you, you're fucked. Might as well send as many to hell as you can. Or just scare them off.
That said, learn self defense as well. Doesn't hurt to have a pocket knife on you too. Don't forget to visit the Temple of Iron regularly.
If you're old enough and live in a normal non-faggot state buy a handgun and if you need a permit to carry concealed you could get one of those. Train with it. Make sure the ammo you buy works good with the gun you buy.
Buy a body camera. Wear it everywhere you can. If you get jumped you will need proof just like when the police get jumped.
Hopefully you don't live in a democrat shithole. If you do then you should move.
As IFuckedYerMum said. I recommend getting a revolver chambered in 460 s&w magnum. It is powerful enough to punch through soft pistol rated armor, but can be loaded with .45 Schofield, .45 Colt, and .454 if you want something lighter.

I considered picking up one of those for when I'm out in bear country.
It's a hell of a nice gun and wildly impractical for concealed carry, unless you feel like walking around with a goddamn Roger Rabbit sized revolver sticking out of your pants.
As powerful as they are, those things are cartoonishly huge.
That picture is a snub nose, their overall size is roughly the same as 44 magnum. The cylinder is slightly longer and thicker, but not by much. 44 has an overall case length of 1.61 in and 460 is 1.80 in. So it's ever so slightly harder to conceal than a 44 magnum.
Roger Rabbit sized revolvers are more along the lines of rifle revolvers like 45-70 revolvers, or extreme pistol revolvers like 500 bushwhacker revolvers.
You still need a vest, jacket, or backpack to conceal it properly, but it's far easier to conceal than an AR pistol.
In terms of fighting, learn some wing chun Kung Fu.
This is honestly one of the best street fighting forms there is for the following reasons.
1. Developed by a monk called "5 no-minds", one of the principles is that you shouldn't have to think about your defence, freeing your mind up to think tactically during a fight.
This is great because the reactive automatic blocks you will develop stop you getting hit, and are also effective against multiple assailants, but being able to think in a fight is a massive upgrade to your capabilities.
2. Wing chun is at its most lethal at VERY close range, even if you are literally chest to chest, you will be capable of inflicting damage and injury - most street fights tend to happen (or at least start) at extreme close range. This will give you an edge.
3. It will improve your fitness
(Don't believe the dipshit arm chair MMA fighters that try and tell you that Kung fu not savagely effective, classic Kung Fu isn't used in fighting sports because the matches will just be over too quickly and as within about a minute someone is going to have something broken or maimed.)
As for a weapon - this is going to get me called a fag, but I would honestly recommend a 'tactical torch'. As long as it's at night it's super effective, can be as lethal or not as you like, and best of all....there is no where you cannot take it, including clubs, bars and planes etc.)

Might be an option if you're unable to get a gun right now.

You can carry a gun, too.
It's good to have a few weapons distributed. You never know if you will be able to reach the one you want.
