What stupid unnecessary bullshit thing did you dismiss as stupid and unnecessary but gained popularity anyway?

I like warning people younger than myself: If new things coming out appear stupid and unnecessary now, it’s only going to get worse. Even when I was a kid, things began to feel stupid and unnecessary.

Instagram. I never used instagram because facebook already existed and I wasn't a 12 year old girl. Just like Google Plus, it was stupid and served no purpose. Years later, it’s pervasive as ever. This entire generation of zoomers divided themselves across several redundant platforms,

Twitter was always a gimmick. You could post 128 character posts. It’s still a gimmick of a platform but I’m glad Musk bought it.

Computers have peaked. What could Windows 11 possibly have to offer us when Windows 10 works just fine. If they still supported 98 or XP, I’m sure many of us would still be using those as they took up fewer hardware resources. And you need to login to a Microsoft account. That’s bullshit.

I remember cutting carbs to lose weight and get healthy. People warned me I’d have a heart attack. Not only did such diets become mainstream. They’ve also corrupted into marketing bullshit. People eat “fat bombs” and stuff themselves full of artificial sweeteners and insoluble fiber instead of eating a damn steak. “Keto”is marketing bullshit.

Windows 10 does not work "just fine". It works "just fine" for every government and corporation that wants to invade your privacy and rape your mind with ads and alter your language with LGBTWQRPINCINCINATTI woke shit, sure. But that's not what operating systems are supposed to do.

They're supposed to do what YOU tell them to do, not the other way around.

I fully agree with your point. From my perspective, I am able to use the task bar to launch a handful of programs without ever needing to login as I disabled the need for a password. I guess under the hood, it is doing the exact opposite of what it should be doing, as you said.

Electric vehicles have become popular much faster than i thought. I still think they are stupid except in a few niche cases.

I feel the same way. Overpriced. Doubt the batteries work well after ten years. Lithium batteries are prone to exploding too which I knew nothing about until recently. Lots of videos online of Chinese phones bursting into flames.

I believe Income Taxes exist only to pay the debt to the Federal Reserve. Historically, Central Banks have always been bad. The fact that one currently exists is bullshit.

In 1993 I setup a stealth PC server for a classic cars website at a huge public university. Even edited the unsecured DNS backbone, nobody discovered it for years.
Turned down advertisers.... thought the internet was a fad.

I admit I used Facebook and Aol Instant Messenger to get laid. But I saw the direction Facebook was going early.

By the time they opened it to high schoolers, I was done.
