I got some pics and some video of it running and moving. I'm not going to fly out to check it out. I'm just going to pay for it and have it shipped. They're pretty neat vehicles.
In the past few years, I've invested quite a bit of money in cars. It may sound strange, but I am actually making more money (on paper, 'cause I have no reason to sell most of what I buy) than I'd make investing in bonds, stocks, annuities, etc...
Pardon the pun, but they're great investment vehicles and they are assets that appreciate - and that I appreciate. You just have to be smart with your purchases and know their value before you start bidding. I also know the trending values over as much as the past 10 years (I have access to that data) much of the time.
But, at the same time, you definitely do NOT want my tax burden. I realized a lot of profit last year, so this year's taxes were absurd. They were well into the six figure mark.
That's why taxes on unrealized gains and "the value of" on property is bullshit. There's no monetary value in something that is not being used for profit and not in a transaction.
If you've got any money, you've got an accountant. They make sure you don't pay any taxes on stuff that's invested. I pretty much only pay capital gains taxes and property taxes. (I have interest in other entities that also pay taxes, but I speak of me personally.)
I laugh when people suggest a high tax bracket of up to 90%.
They like to point out how it was that high in the past while people prospered.
What they don't realize is that, even back then, those wealthy people would avoid (not evade) taxes and nobody literally paid 90% on a portion of their income. Nobody was paying 90%, just like I'm mostly paying capital gains rates today.
BUT...
I wouldn't mind paying taxes - even more in taxes - if they used the money wisely. Instead, they spend it like drunken sailors on stupid shit.
The only taxes I have a real problem with are property taxes... like... okay, so I have a house, I now have to find a way to pay for what I already own for the rest of my life or I'm homeless which means I don't really own it.
I'm not terribly keen on the idea of an income tax either since that makes you a literal slave for 24 to 37% of every hour you work.
Sales tax? I get it. A few other kinds of taxes make sense to me as well. But the rest of those can fuck right off.
