Anyone ever try gassing groundhogs?

submitted by Name to AskUpgoat 2.1 yearsMay 2, 2023 06:39:09 ago (+8/-0)     (AskUpgoat)

I don’t have enough time to go after them this year with a rifle and I’m wondering do they die in their holes or do they pop up out of another hole and take off running?

Make sure you block all of the exists so the gas doesn’t get out. It seems wooden doors work best for this

Dont forget the exposed light bulbs that would usually make that gas combust.

I think you're supposed to used shaped C4 charges in the form of bunnies and squirrels

You have to find and plug all their holes don't you? I've never done it so I don't really know. And that obviously could be a large task depending. But I think plugging any escape routes must be a part of that.

Chlorine works too fast, they die in the burrow and stink up the place.

Use ammonia, here's a recipe from the internet that works ok enough. You'll still have to deal with the animals, this gas just runs them out the burrow.

Mix two tablespoons of detergent in a quarter cup of water. Add two cups of regular ammonia to the solution and stir well.

Don’t have enough time this year to properly stalk them. Coming home from work I can park out of sight and approach my residence on foot but even that takes a good 45 minutes with circling around to be up wind.

Yes. Theyll get away from it. Garlic powder or cloves will deter them.

I have tried it with moles, and it didn't work.
The only thing I have found to work was poison in the tunnels. Not really ideal, as any animal can have access, but it did work.

Why not trap and relocate?

There’s companies that come out and run hoses off the back of quads and pump CO2 to them, so I know that works. I have the same issues.
