Very cool.

Do you happen to know the year on this ad? I just made a guess, and plugged the original price into an inflation calculator for 1973, and the classic model would only cost $18,600 today.

I believe its 1974

$2825 in 1973 is about $16769.50 in 2022. In comparison, a 2019 beetle, the last model, goes for about $30,000

Different volks for different folks?

Correct me if I'm wrong, my German is a little rusty, but isn't that fuckin redundant?

Different folks for different folks.

The Volkswagen Thing was inexplicably popular in the mid-70s. They used to have a commercial where people would see one on the street and say, "What's that thing?"

It was cheap, so hippies could afford it, and the van could hold a lot of druggies at once, or be a small mobile drug base.

One of each, please.
I'll take the station vagon in green, then all my pals will say "here comes peleg in the pickle", just like everyone else that has a green one.

I was always partial to The Thing, though the wagon was always a dream to have one kitted out for camping. Too bad non-rotting ones are so expensive now.

I saw a rusted out pan for a ‘48 go for $32,000 at a farm auction in butt fuck nowhere missouri.

Yeah, it's a combo of now-rich boomers wanting to relive their drug-hazed nonlives and inflation.

In German, V and F sound the same.
