If you look at basically every other massacre that's occurred since, they're all done with bullets or something even lower tech like a machete. Then either you just leave the bodies or throw them in a pit.

I don't think there's a more efficient way to kill people. Lead and gunpowder are pretty cheap, and if you're really desperate there's the machete.

The germans could have kept them in the city prisons and hanged them, no coal or rails spent on transporting them, you could work them in workshops/yards and perform experiments on them in hospitals/asylums, and you could reuse the rope, something far cheaper than gas. Finally, it's be easier to keep secret from your citizens, future victims, and enemy powers. Really puzzling why the germans would send them to camps at all if the plan was to kill them or work them to death. Cheaper, easier to manage, and easier to conceal by keeping them in the city.

For that matter, why bother with Zyklon B when they could just use hydrogen cyanide directly, seeing as it is the active ingredient, and they were getting deliveries from the factory? Cheaper, more compact, and far more effective.

The fumes produced by Zyklon B are highly flammable and explosive. Heating it with a candle would not work as intended. Not to mention it could simply be blown out. And the official story is they simply dropped it from a vent in the ceiling. The whole concept is just absurd.
